Amman: Jordan and Syria have signed an agreement aimed at enhancing trade, passenger transit, and the movement of goods and vehicles between the two nations. This development was achieved through the Jordanian-Syrian Joint Technical Committee for Land Transport, which has worked to streamline procedures and promote reciprocity in transport operations.
According to Jordan News Agency, the agreement was announced during a meeting held in Amman. The session was chaired by Fares Abu Dayyeh, the Secretary-General of Jordan’s Ministry of Transport, and Mohammad Rahal, the Assistant Minister of Transport of Syria, with committee members from both countries actively participating. The discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in the land transport sector, with the aim of removing existing obstacles that hinder seamless transport links between Jordan and Syria.
Fares Abu Dayyeh emphasized the importance of the strong relationship between Jordan and Syria, highlighting the necessity of building on this foundation to enhance cooperation and coordination in transport. This sector is deemed vital for supporting trade and ensuring the smooth flow of goods and passenger mobility. He reiterated Jordan’s openness to collaboration with Syria, viewing the joint committee’s work as a pivotal step toward strengthening ties and overcoming barriers in land transport.
Mohammad Rahal expressed gratitude for Jordan’s hospitality and stressed the significance of Jordanian-Syrian cooperation in the transport sector, describing it as an essential “artery” for sustaining economic activities. He noted that Damascus is eager to leverage Jordan’s expertise to develop modern public transport projects and expressed appreciation for Jordan’s willingness to provide comprehensive support.
The meeting concluded with Abu Dayyeh and Rahal signing the minutes of the committee’s discussions, which included several measures aimed at facilitating transport and trade between the two countries.
