Amman: Jordan's Minister of Agriculture, Saeb Khraisat, met with Syrian Agriculture Minister Amjad Badr and his delegation to deliberate on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in agriculture.
According to Jordan News Agency, the dialogue centered on advancing the agricultural sector and sharing technical expertise to bolster sustainable food security in both nations. The discussions encompassed modern agricultural practices, water resource management, pest and disease control, and capacity building.
Khraisat emphasized collaboration in areas such as animal wealth, veterinary services, and disease control, highlighting the role of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) in these efforts. The ministers also addressed increasing agricultural trade, facilitating the movement of goods, and the transit of products through Syrian territory, while activating a cooperation agreement involving Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq.
Khraisat pointed to Jordan's seed bank and advancements in seed production, fertilizers, and local crop varieties, stressing private sector collaboration to aid Syria's agricultural rebuilding. Badr acknowledged Syria's current challenges and opportunities, valuing Jordan's commitment to cooperation and exploring support in pest control and forestry.
Both ministers reaffirmed the strong ties between Jordan and Syria, emphasizing the importance of joint efforts to enhance agricultural cooperation, strengthen sector capabilities, and achieve sustainable development.
