Amman: The Jordanian-Qatari Parliamentary Brotherhood Committee convened with Qatar's Ambassador to Jordan, Sheikh Saud bin Nasser Al Thani, to explore avenues for expanding bilateral cooperation amid rising regional tensions. The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to enhance their strategic relationship in light of evolving security challenges.
According to Jordan News Agency, Senator Khawla Armouti, chair of the committee, emphasized the enduring historical connections between Jordan and Qatar, which are anchored in mutual respect and shared interests, guided by the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Armouti reiterated Jordan's full solidarity with Qatar in response to recent attacks, highlighting the broader implications of regional conflicts on critical economic infrastructure and global stability. She advocated for the prioritization of diplomacy, dialogue, and adherence to international law to prevent further escalation.
Armouti also commended Qatar for its diplomatic mediation efforts and reaffirmed Jordan's unwavering commitment to Gulf security, viewing it as a fundamental aspect of Arab stability. She stressed that achieving lasting peace in the region is contingent upon resolving violence in the occupied Palestinian territories through a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, while maintaining the Hashemite Custodianship over holy sites.
In response, Ambassador Al Thani expressed Qatar's dedication to strengthening ties with Jordan across various sectors, including economic, educational, and cultural domains. He acknowledged Jordan's steadfast positions on Arab issues and praised King Abdullah II's leadership in advocating for Palestinian rights and safeguarding Jerusalem's holy sites.
Both parties committed to ongoing parliamentary consultation and bilateral coordination to foster mutual interests and bolster regional stability.
