Vilnius: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his Lithuanian counterpart Kestutis Budrys convened in Vilnius on Monday to deliberate on enhancing collaboration between Jordan and Lithuania across several key sectors.
According to Jordan News Agency, the ministers agreed to initiate the first round of formal political consultations in the coming months. These consultations aim to establish a roadmap for identifying priority sectors and feasible steps to bolster the bilateral cooperation. The discussions emphasized the deep-rooted friendship and mutual interest between the two nations to advance cooperation in areas such as economics, investment, defense, education, tourism, and cybersecurity.
Furthermore, the ministers explored the possibilities of expanding coordination within international organizations and the European Union. During his visit, which marks the first by a Jordanian foreign minister to the Baltic state, Safadi highlighted the upcoming Jordan-EU Investment Conference to be held in Jordan later this year. This event is anticipated to offer Lithuanian business leaders valuable insights into Jordan's investment climate.
On regional issues, Safadi provided Budrys with an overview of the serious deterioration in the occupied West Bank and the ongoing efforts to restore security and stability. He emphasized the impact of Israel's illegal measures on the two-state solution, which Lithuania supports as a viable path to peace. Safadi called for collective international efforts to halt these actions and uphold just peace and international law.
The discussion also touched upon the situation in Gaza, with both ministers stressing the importance of stabilizing the region and ensuring the unobstructed flow of humanitarian aid. Safadi expressed gratitude to Lithuania for its support of the two-state solution and efforts towards regional stability.
Additionally, during his visit, Safadi met with Lithuanian Parliament Deputy Speaker Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen at the Seimas to discuss cooperation in key sectors and other issues of mutual interest.
