Amman: Minister of Government Communication and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani continued his bilateral meetings with senior officials participating in the 13th Global Media and Information Literacy Week conference on Thursday. Momani met with his counterpart, Lebanese Minister of Information in the caretaker government, Ziad Makary, to explore ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Jordan and Lebanon, with a particular focus on media collaboration. The discussions aimed to intensify cooperation between media institutions in both countries, thereby reinforcing joint Arab action.
According to Jordan News Agency, Momani addressed the Israeli aggression on Lebanon, emphasizing the need for an immediate halt to the aggression and measures to alleviate the humanitarian crisis affecting the Lebanese populace. The crisis has resulted in the displacement of over 1.2 million Lebanese since the aggression began. Momani reiterated Jordan’s steadfast support, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, for Leba
non’s security and territorial integrity, highlighting the importance of implementing Security Council Resolution 1701 and Jordan’s commitment to providing humanitarian aid.
In response, Makary praised Jordan’s supportive stance towards Lebanon, particularly its efforts to stop Israeli aggression and provide humanitarian assistance to those affected. He underscored the significance of enhancing media cooperation between Lebanon and Jordan through potential memoranda of understanding with official media institutions and facilitating exchanges between media delegations from both nations.
Furthermore, Momani met with Tawfiq Jilassi, Assistant Director-General for the Communication and Information Sector at UNESCO, discussing the strategic partnership between the Ministry of Government Communication and UNESCO. Momani emphasized the importance of this collaboration in executing various programs within the media sector, notably hosting the 13th conference of the World Media and Information Literacy Week, marking
Jordan as the first Arab nation to organize the event.
During their conversation, Momani highlighted the rising tensions in the region, including the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, which disregards international peace calls and targets civilians and journalists, with over 185 journalists reportedly killed by Israeli forces. Jilassi reaffirmed that hosting the conference in Jordan reflects recognition of the Kingdom’s leading role in promoting media and information literacy in the Arab world and its efforts to share this experience regionally. He expressed UNESCO’s readiness to enhance collaboration with Jordan in implementing media projects and activities, including media and information literacy programs.
