Amman: Sufyan Bataineh, Secretary-General of the Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ), Asari Hideki, the Japanese Ambassador to Jordan, and Mohammad Kharabsheh, CEO of Miyahuna, evaluated the operational enhancements at the Zai Water Treatment Plant on Tuesday. The officials inspected the Deir Alla intake station and the King Abdullah Canal, both of which supply raw water to the Zai facility. The plant is essential in providing potable water to Amman and various other governorates.
According to Jordan News Agency, the upgrade project, funded by a Japanese government grant through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), commenced operations in mid-2023. The initiative involved replacing and modernizing critical operational equipment and systems to enhance efficiency, reliability, and the overall performance of the water supply.
Bataineh highlighted the project as a testament to the collaboration between Jordan and Japan, emphasizing its impact on the plant's infrastructure and operational efficiency and its support for the long-term sustainability of water services. He affirmed WAJ's commitment to continuing the enhancement of water infrastructure through partnerships with international donors to tackle Jordan's water challenges and improve the sector's efficiency and sustainability.
Hideki expressed his appreciation for the water partnership between Tokyo and Amman, reaffirming Japan's commitment to supporting projects that bolster Jordan's water security, improve service delivery, and enhance local capacity.
