Amman: President of the Economic and Social Council, Musa Shteiwi, and International Labour Organization (ILO) expert Amin Wreidat engaged in discussions on Wednesday to explore ways to expand cooperation on labor market issues.
According to Jordan News Agency, Shteiwi emphasized the council's role as a national dialogue platform that unites the government, employers, and workers to achieve consensus on socioeconomic policies. He highlighted the council's commitment to supporting decision-making and promoting decent work standards. Shteiwi expressed eagerness to deepen the partnership with the ILO, aiming to leverage international expertise for updating labor legislation and enhancing social protection and workplace safety.
Wreidat, who is visiting Jordan to evaluate the country's labor inspection, occupational safety, and health systems, praised the council's efforts in fostering social dialogue and involving stakeholders in labor policy discussions. He reiterated the ILO's commitment to supporting Jordan's initiatives to align labor inspection and safety frameworks with international standards.
Both sides concurred on the importance of maintaining coordination to improve Jordan's work environment, update labor policies, and enhance economic competitiveness and sustainable development.
