Amman:The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), in collaboration with the General Syndicate of Jordanian Olive Press Owners and Olive Producers, has announced new preventive measures at olive mills. The initiative calls for the cessation of dipping bread into olive oil storage tanks, receiving containers, or packaging intended for sale. Instead, the JFDA recommends using separate tasting plates and clean utensils during promotional and tasting activities.
According to Jordan News Agency, the new measures are designed to protect consumers with celiac disease by preventing possible cross-contamination with gluten. The JFDA emphasized that pure olive oil is naturally gluten-free, but exposure to bread or its crumbs, as well as contaminated utensils or containers, might introduce gluten into the oil, posing a health risk to individuals with celiac disease.
Additionally, the JFDA revealed that this directive was issued following the circulation of promotional videos on social media showing bread being dipped directly into olive oil containers. The administration's specialized inspection teams are actively monitoring promotional content and are following up on corrective measures to ensure compliance and safeguard consumer health.
