Amman: The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) hosted a comprehensive meeting with representatives from the food, pharmaceutical, and medical supplies sectors, alongside a delegation from the Chinese Embassy in Jordan.
According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting sought to develop a roadmap for enhancing industrial and investment cooperation in these sectors and to explore joint humanitarian initiatives aimed at supporting the people of Gaza with medical and food aid, in collaboration with relevant authorities.
JFDA Director General Rana Obeidat emphasized the importance of sharing information on food and pharmaceutical products with export potential to China and understanding the legislative and regulatory environments in both countries to facilitate exports. She announced plans for future technical meetings with Chinese health authorities to align regulatory requirements, attract quality investments, and boost exports.
Obeidat also highlighted the value of field visits by technical delegations to major Chinese manufacturing facilities to exchange expertise and build capacity in global technological standards for pharmaceutical and medical supplies manufacturing, following successes in the food sector.
Commercial and Economic Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Jordan, Cheng Yongru, affirmed the strong strategic partnership between Jordan and China. He emphasized introducing major Chinese companies to investment opportunities in Jordan.
Fadi Atrash from the Jordan Chamber of Industry presented an overview of the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector's growth, noting exports reached $863 million in 2024, marking a 15 percent increase due to the quality and reliability of Jordanian medicines.
Hanan Sboul, Secretary General of the Jordanian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, highlighted ongoing efforts to expand collaboration with Chinese companies to support industry growth.
Mohammad Jeitan from the Jordan Chamber of Industry discussed the strengths and growth of the food, supply, agricultural industries, and livestock sector, which achieved a cumulative growth of 102 percent over five years, with exports valued at JOD 823 million in 2024.
Fawaz Shakaa, Chairperson of the Board of Restoring Hope Society, outlined the association's work in providing medical support to amputees in Gaza and positioning Jordan as a regional hub for prosthetics and rehabilitation.
Yara Barghouthi, Vice President of MENA Regulatory Affairs at Hikma Pharmaceuticals, shared the company's global expansion story since its founding in Jordan in 1978, highlighting its operations, manufacturing plants, and research and development centers worldwide.
