Amman: The Jerusalem Governorate has issued a warning regarding a recent decision by Israeli occupation authorities to advance the “E1” settlement scheme east of Jerusalem. The plan is seen as a “dangerous step” aimed at imposing Judaization facts on the ground and poses a threat to any future political solutions.
According to Jordan News Agency, the Jerusalem Governorate described the revived plan as one of the most perilous settlement initiatives. It aims to split the West Bank into two, isolating Jerusalem from its Palestinian context, and eliminating the possibility of a contiguous Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The Governorate emphasized that the project would disrupt the Palestinian urban landscape between Ramallah, Jerusalem, and Bethlehem, affecting the lives of about one million people by creating a settlement corridor in central West Bank despite repeated international warnings.
The Governorate’s statement highlighted that while global attention is on the conflict in the Gaza Strip, Israel is using the situation to enforce illegal changes on the ground. They labeled the settlement expansion as “a political crime,” adding to the Israeli occupation’s history of violations. The statement urged the United Nations and the international community, especially those sponsoring peace, to take immediate and effective actions to halt the plan, which could lead to a dangerous escalation threatening both regional and international security and stability.
