Amman: The general Consumer Price Index (CPI), or inflation, rose 1.06% in January 2026, compared with January 2025, and edged up 0.17% from December 2025, said the Department of Statistics (DoS) on Wednesday.

According to Jordan News Agency, the DoS monthly report put the CPI at 113.42 points in January 2026, up from 112.23 points a year earlier and from 113.22 points in December 2025. On an annual basis, the main upward contributors were personal effects (38.92%), oils and fats (13.45%), tea, coffee, and cocoa (12.02%), fruits and nuts (4.23%), and tobacco and cigarettes (3.99%).

Offsetting factors that helped curb the increase included meat and poultry (-9.80%), fresh and dried/canned vegetables and legumes (-6.27%), household appliances (-3.28%), and household tools (-1.07%). Month-on-month, key groups pushing the CPI higher were personal effects (5.38%), tobacco and cigarettes (3.98%), water and sewage services (3.78%), fresh and dried/canned vegetables and legumes (1.85%), and meat and poultry (0.97%), the report said.

The CPI is calculated using a consumer basket of 850 items, including 325 food items and 525 non-food items, according to the DoS.
