Iraq’s current population is 40 million

The current population of Iraq is 40,150,000, according to the Ministry of Planning’s latest census figures.

Ministry spokesman Abdul-Zahra Hindawi said in a statement that the country sees a population rise from last year, but not the same increase a decade ago. However, it remained high, compared to other countries, he added.

Planning Minister Khaled Battal told a seminar on development that 68 per cent of the population are under 30 years of age, with children under 15 accounting for 40 per cent, while the elderly population of over 65 dropped 3 per cent.
