Baghdad: Iraq announced on Wednesday a complete halt in Iranian gas imports, leading to a significant drop in electricity production capacity amid ongoing regional developments. The Ministry of Electricity stated that the suspension of Iranian gas supplies has resulted in the loss of approximately 3,000 megawatts from the national power grid.
According to Jordan News Agency, the Ministry of Electricity explained that the rapidly escalating and dangerous events in the region have caused the complete stoppage of imported gas supplies from Iran, significantly impacting electricity generation. The ministry emphasized the urgent need to address the power shortfall as it struggles to maintain adequate electricity supply across the country.
To mitigate the impact of the gas supply halt, Electricity Minister Hayyan Abdul Ghani has directed increased coordination with the Ministry of Oil and other relevant entities. Measures being undertaken include securing alternative fuel supplies, such as fuel oil, and maximizing the use of domestically produced gas to sustain power generation. The ministry is working diligently to find solutions to stabilize the power grid and ensure continued electricity supply to citizens during this challenging period.
