Amman: The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on Saturday called for joint parliamentary action to face successive challenges, stressing that closer cooperation and solidarity among Arab countries safeguards the interests of the Arab world and its people.
According to Jordan News Agency, Secretary-General Ahmed Baaboud stated in a message marking the 51st anniversary of the IPU that the union is committed to coordinating and fostering cooperation between Arab parliaments. This collaboration aims to address challenges related to Arab national security and to defend the interests and stability of Arab nations, protecting their societies effectively.
Baaboud emphasized that this year’s anniversary comes amid significant regional and international changes and complex political events. These developments have increased the Union’s responsibilities, reinforcing its determination to continue serving pan-Arab causes, with the Palestinian issue being a priority.
Furthermore, Baaboud highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy as a support to official diplomacy. This approach promotes understanding and the building of common interests between countries, serving to enhance stability and development. It also aligns with the aspirations of Arab peoples for a dignified life characterized by justice and fairness.
