Interior Minister Faraya Urges Improved Services at King Hussein Bridge

Amman: Interior Minister Mazen Faraya on Sunday inspected the King Hussein Bridge (KHB) to review operational procedures and assess the level of services provided to travelers. During his visit, Faraya met with bridge officials and the CEO of the JETT passenger transport company to discuss operational issues and observations.

According to Jordan News Agency, Faraya stated that a tender for infrastructure development is currently underway, noting that traveler waiting areas have been constructed and equipped with essential services. He highlighted that work is ongoing to further develop these facilities within available resources, with additional infrastructure projects set to commence in the coming days.

Faraya outlined the goals of the development project, which aims to build new facilities and cargo areas, establish a comprehensive public transport station, and rehabilitate passport control venues. He noted the bridge's unique nature, as it connects Jordan with the Palestinian territories, and explained the challenges posed by the Israeli side's control of the crossing. This control results in limitations on the number of buses and passengers allowed, as well as fixed operating hours or occasional sudden closures.

The minister emphasized the importance and effectiveness of the e-platform in streamlining travel procedures and organizing advance online ticket bookings, in accordance with the capacity limits set by the Israeli side. He pointed out that the main reasons for congestion at the bridge are travelers' early arrival, failure to purchase tickets through the e-platform, and a lack of planning for both outbound and return journeys.

Faraya rejected claims of traveler mistreatment, affirming Jordan's supportive stance towards the Palestinian people and its commitment to preserving their dignity and defending their rights. He indicated that critics of the platform have commercial interests in its cancellation, aiming for financial gain. Additionally, he toured the bridge's various facilities and checked on services provided to travelers.

Commending the procedures implemented by the different agencies operating at the bridge, Faraya acknowledged their role in streamlining processes through a clear operational framework. He listened directly to traveler feedback and emphasized to the relevant authorities the need to take immediate action to address certain administrative issues.
