Amman: Interior Minister Mazen Faraya met with UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Barham Salih to discuss enhancing the voluntary return of Syrian refugees and measures to facilitate their safe return to their country.
According to Jordan News Agency, both Faraya and Salih emphasized the need to provide necessary support to refugees to ensure decent living conditions, along with supporting host communities that continue to manage the responsibility of hosting refugees. They acknowledged the existing cooperation between the Kingdom and the UNHCR and expressed a desire to further strengthen bilateral relations.
Faraya underscored Jordan's significant role in hosting refugees and its commitment to providing them with essential services. He noted the impact of hosting refugees on various sectors, including health, education, water, and transport, highlighting the strain on national infrastructure.
Salih commended Jordan's active role in hosting refugees and acknowledged the substantial burdens the Kingdom continues to bear.
