Increased women’s economic participation enhances employment rates-ACC

Amman: Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) Head, Khalil Haj Tawfiq, said there are about 9,000 ACC-registered establishments, in which women are partners, while 3,274 businesses are owned by businesswomen.

Congratulating women on the occasion of International Women’s Day (IWD), which falls on March 8 annually, he stressed the importance of Jordanian women’s role in various fields, especially in economic areas, which improves growth and employment rates.

In a statement, he noted ACC launched a businesswomen committee aimed at providing support to chamber’s female members, identifying their concerns and needs, and supporting them to get elected for the chamber’s board of directors in the future.

He also stressed the importance of empowering businesswomen in various commercial sectors to develop their businesses and raise level of their enterprise competitiveness and their economic participation.

This effort, he noted, would also engage women in decisions that have an economic impact, which would help respond to business owner ‘s needs and challenges.

The ACC’s businesswomen committee “truly” reflects Royal vision, which supports women’s role in society and Jordan’s economy, he said, adding that the chamber is keen to providing job opportunities, employment and training for women.

Supporting women in the business entrepreneurship field and increasing their participation in the labor market would have a “positive” impact on their families and lives, reduce unemployment rates, and contribute to raising growth rates of the national economy, he pointed out.
