IEC refers suspected vote secrecy violations to prosecution

The Independent Election Commission (IEC) said Tuesday that it referred 7 cases to the public prosecutor on suspicion of violating vote secrecy during local elections, without giving further details about the incidents.

IEC spokesperson Mohammad Rawashdeh said that an investigation is already underway in 16 cases on the suspicion of “influencing the will of voters by using black money (vote buying)”.

He also added that 9 cyber crimes, whose nature or connection to the vote was not disclosed, were also referred to the competent authorities.
