IEC, Orange Jordan sign agreement for smart meters

The Irbid Electricity Company (IEC) and Orange Jordan Wednesday signed a partnership and cooperation agreement, under which Orange will supply the IEC with smart meters.

The agreement, signed by the IEC’s Director, Bashar al-Tamimi, and the CEO of Orange, Thierry Marigny, supports the company’s concession areas in the governorates of Irbid, Jerash, Ajloun and Mafraq.

The move comes within the framework of the IEC’s Smart Grid Project, which has smart meters at its core. The project aims at improving the quality of services provided to the company’s subscribers in several areas, such as ensuring the quality of electric energy and protecting the subscriber’s equipment, in addition to ensuring billing accuracy and other applications that to be announced later on.

Speaking on the agreement, al-Tamimi pointed out that the installation of smart electric meters moves the company and its subscribers to a new era with accurate meter readings. Smart meters, he added, serve to avoid possible errors and monitor any malfunction, tampering or manipulation in the meter itself. They also enhance the principle of transparency that the company is working to achieve in accordance with the highest international standards.

For his part, Marigny pointed to the importance of the agreement in adopting smart solutions that would enhance efficiency in the electricity services provided to the residents of the IEC’s concession areas, which are vital areas in the Kingdom.

He stressed that Orange Jordan continues to provide companies and institutions in various sectors and governorates with advanced services in line with the company’s position as a leading and responsible digital provider.
