Amman: Independent Election Commission (IEC) Chairman Musa Maaytah said on Monday the commission is committed to building productive, results-oriented partnerships grounded in openness and collaborative engagement with stakeholders. He spoke during the launch of a workshop, titled "Introduction to Electoral Administration," part of the Building Resources in Democracy, Governance, and Elections (BRIDGE) program, and was organized by the IEC in cooperation with the Arab League with support from UN Women, according to an IEC statement on Monday.
According to Jordan News Agency, Maaytah emphasized the IEC's focus on investing in youth capacity-building within the commission and across universities and educational institutions. He noted that young professionals are crucial to strengthening electoral management systems, enhancing professional competence, and institutionalizing best practices in electoral administration.
Ahmad Amin, Director of the Arab League's Elections Affairs Secretariat, highlighted the strategic partnership between the League and the IEC. He noted the IEC's leading regional role and its sustained focus on developing human capital, pledging continued support from the Arab League in joint efforts on electoral management and governance.
Bushra Abu Shahout from UN Women in Jordan stressed the importance of their strategic partnership with the IEC. She praised the commission's focus on youth empowerment and skills development, noting that the joint program contributes to enhancing women's participation in electoral and political processes, while also supporting youth participation, in line with recognized best practices.
The program is part of a broader series of specialized training aimed at raising awareness of electoral processes, building staff capacities, and promoting meaningful participation of youth and women, consistent with international standards and leading comparative experiences.
