Gaza city: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) expressed grave concern on Wednesday over the intensifying hostilities in Gaza City and Jabalia refugee camp, which have reportedly left dozens of civilians dead or injured over the past 36 hours.
According to Jordan News Agency, the ICRC stated that the renewed violence is occurring at a time when Gaza’s already devastated healthcare system is struggling to cope with a continuous influx of critical cases. Nearly all operational hospitals in Gaza have either been shut down or severely damaged as a result of months of hostilities and restrictions on the entry of vital medicines and equipment.
The statement noted that the few remaining medical facilities, including the ICRC field hospital, are operating far beyond their capacity. They face acute shortages of essential medical supplies, fuel, and even body bags, significantly hampering their ability to provide care to the wounded and ensure the dignified treatment of victims.
The ICRC reiterated its urgent call for the protection of medical personnel and facilities in Gaza, emphasizing the need to respect and safeguard them and to take all feasible measures to support their humanitarian mission and ensure access to critical resources.
