ICRC and KOICA Launch Joint Initiative to Support Conflict-Affected Families.

Amman: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) have initiated a collaborative project in Jordan, titled “Protection of Family Links (PFL) to alleviate suffering and to contribute to Peace-building in conflict-affected communities.”

According to Jordan News Agency, the PFL project, funded by KOICA, aims to assist families of individuals who have gone missing in conflicts in Syria, Lebanon, or Jordan. It seeks to help these families by providing access to PFL services. The ICRC’s efforts under this project include organizing psychosocial group sessions, distributing relief aid, offering livelihood support, ensuring healthcare access through emergency cash aid, and assisting with legal and administrative challenges to uphold their rights and legal status amid the distress of having missing family members.

Kim Pil-woo, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Jordan, emphasized the significance of the KOICA-ICRC collaboration in reuniting fami
lies separated by regional conflicts and aiding them in overcoming their hardships.

Sarah Avrillaud, Head of the ICRC Delegation in Jordan, expressed gratitude to KOICA and the Korean government for their generous contribution of approximately $10.5 million towards the ICRC’s efforts to support families of missing persons. She highlighted that this is the first project financed by KOICA focused on the Protection of Family Links (PFL), acknowledging the severe impact experienced by the affected families.
