ICC Denounces U.S. Sanctions as Attack on Judicial Independence

Amman: The International Criminal Court (ICC) on Wednesday strongly rejected U.S. sanctions imposed on its judges and deputy prosecutors. In its first reaction to Washington’s decision, the court condemned the move in a statement, describing it as a “blatant attack” on its independence and stressing that “these sanctions are a blatant assault on the independence of a neutral judicial body.”

According to Jordan News Agency, the ICC emphasized the importance of maintaining the autonomy of international judicial bodies. The court’s statement highlighted concerns that such sanctions could undermine the court’s ability to function effectively and impartially. The ICC affirmed its commitment to uphold international justice and maintain the principles of judicial independence amidst external pressures.
