House association, Azerbaijani envoy talk trade cooperation, regional developments

Head of Jordanian-Asia and Oceania Parliamentary Friendship Association, MP Abdul Rahim Ma’ayeh, stressed the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem’s Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

The MP reviewed His Majesty King Abdullah II’s stances towards the Palestinian cause and his efforts to achieve security and stability in the East Middle.

During the association’s meeting Wednesday, with Azerbaijani ambassador to Amman, Eldar Salimov, Ma’ayeh said the Kingdom and Azerbaijan have “strong” political relations, referring to a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoU).

The MP also underlined the importance to implement joint programs in several fields, including energy and culture, tourism, agriculture and investment promotion.

Ma’ayeh, moreover, highlighted the importance of strengthening trade, economic and parliamentary relations between the two friendly countries, especially amid the Covid-19 pandemic-induced “difficult” circumstances.

The discussions also went over the region’s situation, especially with regard to the Palestinian issue and the Syrian crisis.

The association’s head and members lauded “high” level of Jordanian-Azerbaijani relations in many fields, driven by keenness of the two countries’ leaderships to develop and strengthen ties, which are based on mutual respect and continuous coordination on various issues of common interest.

Salimov, for his part, said his country affirms its position towards the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem’s holy sites, and the King’s continued role in achieving comprehensive and just peace in the region.

The diplomat also stressed the need to develop and expand relations with Jordan, especially in the field of economic cooperation, noting that the recent Royal visit to Azerbaijan focused on strengthening political relations and increasing economic and investment exchange.

Salimov said mutual visits between the two countries’ leaders will support and open “new” horizons for economic cooperation and motivate the private sector and businesspeople to take advantage of the available opportunities.
