Hot spell to grip Jordan today

A dry and hot spell will envelope the Kingdom on Monday, pushing temperatures 2-3 degrees above annual average and bringing relatively hot weather in the highlands and the plains, reaching a high of 34 Degrees Celsius in Amman, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily brief.

In the late afternoon and evening hours, cooler weather is forecast as mercury levels slide to around 25C, the JMD added.

The Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and the southern Red Sea port city of Aqaba are set to bake in blistering heat with temperatures surpassing the 40C threshold .

Over the next two days, mercury levels will continue to soar, making hot weather in the mountainous areas and the plains, and sweltering conditions in the Badia, the Jordan Valley and Aqaba, with clouds at various altitudes in the southern and eastern regions, while winds will be northwesterly moderate to brisk, the JMD predicted.

During the three-day heatwave, the weather department warned the public of direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours from noon to 3pm, and of poor visibility caused by dust-laden winds in the Badia.
