Hneifat Reviews Progress in National Afforestation Plan for 2024

AMMAN: Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat, assessed the advancements in Jordan’s national afforestation plan for 2024, focusing on key projects and implementation strategies planned for 2025.

According to Jordan News Agency, Hneifat reported that 1 million trees were planted across seven newly-established artificial forests throughout the country in 2024. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to cultivate 1 million carob seedlings, which align with the broader action plan that includes the establishment of a carob factory in the northern Irbid governorate. The minister noted that the plan also successfully afforested 14 kilometers along the desert highway.

The ministry’s nurseries produced 3 million seedlings last year and are continuing their efforts in 2025, with a goal of producing more than 3 million trees in total. The focus remains on sustaining these afforestation initiatives and monitoring the development of the Kingdom’s forests. Hneifat emphasized the importance of adhering to the action plan’s timelines and objectives.

Further, Hneifat mentioned that a study is underway to develop a mechanism for numbering trees, which would facilitate future monitoring. He stressed the importance of detecting forest violations and called for intensified collaboration with partners to protect Jordan’s green resources.
