Higher Education Ministry Announces District-Based Scholarships and Loans Initiative

Amman: The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced a new initiative that will allocate 550 scholarships and student loans to each district starting next year. This initiative aims to balance the allocation of financial aid between district quotas and population density.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Cabinet has approved changes to the Student Support Fund regulations in public universities. This amendment focuses on promoting fairness and equal opportunities for students receiving financial aid. Under the new plan, each district in the Kingdom will receive a fixed quota of 550 financial aids, which includes 250 loans and 150 scholarships for undergraduate students, as well as 150 scholarships for associate degree students in vocational and applied fields.

Higher Education Ministry spokesman Muhannad Al-Khatib stated that this allocation represents 50 percent of the total aid. The remaining 50 percent will be distributed based on the relative importance of each district, which will be determined annually by the number of eligible applicants. This approach is expected to significantly increase the chances for students in districts with high student densities, as they will receive a larger share of grants and loans.

Al-Khatib also announced that the new system will be implemented starting in the 2026-2027 academic year, marking a significant shift in how financial aid is distributed to ensure more equitable access to higher education across the Kingdom.
