Heat wave to continue today, taper off Sunday

The heat wave that affected the Kingdom for the seventh day in a row, will continue, pushing temperature 6 to 7 degrees Celsius above their seasonal average for this time of the year, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Friday.

The JMD warned of direct sunlight exposure, not to leave flammable materials inside vehicles and low horizontal visibility due to dust in the Badia regions.

Over the next 48 hours, similar weather conditions will prevail across the country, with northwesterly moderate winds, the JMD said.

The prevailing heat wave is forecast to taper off starting Monday, with a slight drop in temperatures as relatively hot conditions are expected in hilly areas and plains, while hot conditions prevail in the Dead Sea, the Jordan Valley and the port city of Aqaba, the JMD added.

Temperatures in the capital Amman will range between a high of 37 degrees Celsius and a low of 22 degrees.

Highs in in the port city of Aqaba will hike up to 40 degrees during the day, sliding to 29 degrees at night.
