Amman: The Hashemite University and Special Olympics Jordan have formalized a partnership to develop training and rehabilitation programs aimed at enhancing the services and support available to individuals with intellectual disabilities. This agreement was signed on Monday by His Royal Highness Prince Raad bin Zeid, president of Special Olympics Jordan, and Hashemite University President Khaled Hayari. The ceremony was attended by officials and representatives from both organizations.
According to Jordan News Agency, the agreement provides a framework for sustained collaboration in the areas of training, research, and community engagement. The initiative will see the two parties working together to implement joint programs and initiatives that support individuals with intellectual disabilities. It also aims to provide field training opportunities for students in special education, adapted physical education, applied medical sciences, and related disciplines, thereby enhancing their practical skills and employment prospects.
The partnership will facilitate Special Olympics-accredited health screenings and medical assessments, in addition to the joint organization of conferences, seminars, and training courses focused on advancing scientific knowledge and professional practices for individuals with disabilities.
Moreover, the agreement emphasizes the promotion of volunteerism among university students and the fostering of a culture of inclusion. It also includes the organization of sporting events at local and international levels to promote health and physical activity among people with disabilities, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals and Jordan's vision of an equitable society.
Additionally, the partnership aims to bolster applied scientific research by creating a supportive environment for studies related to intellectual disabilities and integrating healthy community concepts into university curricula.
Hayari stated that empowering individuals with disabilities is integral to the university's social mission. He described the partnership as a model for collaboration between higher education institutions and national organizations that blend academic expertise with practical experience. He noted that the Hashemite University is a leader in disability inclusion in Jordan, offering an accessible learning environment and implementing comprehensive inclusion standards.
Hayari also underscored the university's commitment to adopting best practices, which include enhancing campus infrastructure and preparing qualified personnel to support the empowerment and integration of people with disabilities into the broader society.
