Haina meets Egyptian envoy over joint cooperation

Chairman of the Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee, MP Khaldoun Haina, said Jordanian-Egyptian relations are “deep-rooted, historic and longstanding,” which reflect the two countries’ pan-Arab stances at the popular level.

Speaking at talks with Egyptian Ambassador to Jordan, Mohamed Samir, Haina noted bilateral relations have further prospered and grown by continuous contact between His Majesty King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, according to a committee statement issued on Sunday.

Haina also referred to the continuous joint coordination to develop relations and launch sustainable integrative economic partnerships.

Jordan’s positions, under the King’s leadership, are “firm and unwavering” towards the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem, he noted, reiterating the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over the holy city’s Islamic and Christian holy sites and its role in preserving its Arab, Islamic and Christian identity and its legal and historical status quo.

Meanwhile, the committee’s members stressed the importance of increasing trade, economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries, and strengthening common positions to serve mutual interests.

The lawmakers called on expanding joint cooperation to cover all economic, commercial, tourism, water, agricultural and energy fields and raising level of Egyptian investment in the Kingdom, stressing the need to exchange expertise at various levels.

For his part, the envoy said Jordanian-Egyptian relations are “strategic,” based on similar common interests.

Stressing the importance of continuous coordination between the two sides in all fields, the diplomat hailed His Majesty King Abdullah II’s firm stances on regional issues, especially the Palestinian cause.

Jordan is at the forefront in its support for the Palestinian cause with Egypt, he said, pointing to the joint coordination and multiple common stances in this regard.
