Gov’t coordinator for human rights meets Irish envoy

Government Coordinator for Human Rights at the Prime Ministry Nathir Awamleh on Monday met with Ambassador of Ireland to Jordan, Marianne Bolger.

Awamleh and Bolger ways to enhance cooperation and coordination in programs related to human rights, especially the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He highlighted tasks carried out by the Office of the Government Coordinator for Human Rights, most notably, following up and reviewing legislation to align it with international conventions related to human rights, and following up on the comprehensive national plan for human rights (2015-2025). In addition to reviewing the periodic report of the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR), taking into account the recommendations contained therein.

Bolger, in turn, said that the Embassy of Ireland is looking forward to working with various government institutions and agencies in Jordan, in light of the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

She highlighted her country’s efforts in human rights, whether at local or international levels, especially refugees.

Bolger said she looks forward to cooperate with Jordan and exchange expertise in human rights.
