Amman: Secretary General of the Ministry of Government Communication Zaid Nawaiseh emphasized the Kingdom’s dedication to enhancing cooperation with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, particularly in the media sector. Nawaiseh made these remarks while hosting a delegation from GCC news agencies at the Ministry’s headquarters as part of an exchange program between the Jordan News Agency (Petra) and Gulf news agencies, coordinated with the GCC General Secretariat. The meeting included Petra Chairman of the Board of Directors Nabil Ghaishan and Director General Fayrouz Mubaideen.
According to Jordan News Agency, media cooperation has developed an institutional dimension under the GCC framework in recent years. A series of meetings in Amman and Riyadh have centered on exchanging expertise, engaging with new media and social media, exploring artificial intelligence, combating fake and misleading news, and addressing challenges faced by media institutions.
Nawaiseh noted that the meeting showcases ongoing collaboration between Jordan and GCC countries, particularly in media exchange between Petra and Gulf counterparts, as well as the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation. He highlighted the role of the Ministry of Government Communication, established under the government’s administrative modernization plan guided by royal directives. The ministry is responsible for conveying the state’s message, engaging with contemporary media, and promoting a modern image of Jordan, while supporting political modernization, the Economic Modernization Vision, and public sector reforms.
Nawaiseh also outlined several initiatives launched by the Ministry, including training government spokespeople, developing media literacy programs, and launching the weekly “Government Communication Forum.” This interactive platform unites officials, journalists, and social media audiences to discuss public issues. Additionally, the “Ida’at” or Illuminations program was introduced to produce youth-focused awareness content on media literacy.
Ghaishan expressed gratitude for the GCC media delegation’s visit, and Mubaideen emphasized the importance of sharing expertise and learning from Jordan’s media experience. She thanked the Jordan Tourism Board, the Jordan Chamber of Industry, and official bodies in Jerash and Ajloun for their contributions to the success of the visit.
The GCC delegation expressed pride in visiting the ministry and learning about its programs and initiatives aimed at advancing media and communication.
