Ghana Reveals 26-Man Squad for 2026 FIFA World Cup Amid Injury Concerns

Accra: The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially unveiled the Black Stars' 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The announcement, initially delayed by a day due to injury concerns, was made on Monday, June 1, during a media briefing led by head coach Carlos Queiroz. This comes as Ghana wraps up its preparations for the final pre-World Cup friendly against Wales.

According to Ghana Web, the squad announcement has sparked extensive discussion among fans, with attention drawn to both notable inclusions and omissions. The team will be captained by Jordan Ayew and includes experienced players such as Thomas Partey, Inaki Williams, Antoine Semenyo, and Kamaldeen Sulemana. Home-based goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has also secured a place in the squad following impressive performances this season.

The announcement was notably marked by the absence of Kudus Mohammed, who could not recover from a thigh injury sustained earlier in the year. Additionally, defender Mohammed Salisu will not participate due to an ACL injury, and injured centre-back Alexander Djiku has been replaced by Derrick Luckassen in the final selection.

A significant highlight from the squad unveiling was the return of veteran left-back Baba Abdul Rahman, who is once again part of the World Cup squad after participating in the 2022 tournament. As Ghana prepares for its fifth FIFA World Cup appearance, the Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. The team is set to begin its campaign against Panama on June 17, followed by matches against England and Croatia in the group stage.
