Gaza’s martyrs toll rises to 217

The brutal and barbaric aggression on the Gaza Strip that has been ongoing for nine days killed, until Tuesday evening, 217 martyrs, including 63 children, 36 women and 16 elderly people, in addition to 1500 different injuries, including 50 which were listed as very serious, among which 450 for children and 295 for women.

A Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip statement said the aggression led to the displacement of tens of thousands of citizens in harsh health and living conditions which will have dire consequences in the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic and infectious diseases, and the ministry’s inability to follow it up in shelters, especially with the continuation of the Israeli aggression, the stopping of the central laboratory and the targeting of health facilities.

After the central laboratory stopped conducting coronavirus tests for the second day in a row due to the Israeli aggression that affected the Ministry of Health building and the Central Rimal Clinic, the virus laboratory is being invested in the Medical Relief Foundation to provide Coronavirus tests to travelers only due to the limited capacity of the laboratory, the statement added.

The Ministry warned of a series of Israeli violations against health personnel and institutions, which constitutes a threat to its work and impedes its movement in evacuating and rescuing victims of aggression, calling on the international community to criminalize these violations and hold the occupier accountable for its crimes in accordance with international conventions and norms.

The Ministry called on concerned authorities to put pressure on the Israeli occupation in order to open the crossings for the arrival of health aid and medical delegations and to facilitate the movement of the wounded and sick to complete their treatment in specialized hospitals outside the Gaza Strip.

It also warned against targeting the electricity system in the sector and its effects on the overall health work and its vital services, exposing sensitive medicines and vaccinations to damage, as well as disrupting medical devices.

The Ministry said that it is conducting intensive contacts with all relief agencies and launches urgent distress calls to provide immediate support to the health system, including medicines, medical consumables, ambulances, and spare parts for medical devices.
