GAM Official, Two Others Detained for JD40,000 Bribery Plot

Amman: The Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (IACC) prosecutor has ordered the detention of a district director from the Greater Amman Municipality and two legal facilitators on charges of bribery and mediation in bribery. The three suspects will be held for 15 days at the Marka Rehabilitation and Reform Center pending further investigation.

According to Jordan News Agency, the IACC's findings revealed that the district manager and the two facilitators, who reportedly share a personal friendship, allegedly solicited JD40,000 ($56,400) from an investor. The bribe was requested in exchange for securing a license for a caf© in Amman. The suspects reportedly justified the demand by falsely claiming the payment had been ordered by "influential figures."

An official source at the commission stated that the case was initiated following intelligence reports. The IACC tracked the suspects' movements and gathered the necessary evidence before coordinating with security forces to carry out the arrests. The suspects were subsequently referred to the public prosecutor for formal charging and legal proceedings.
