French experts participate in mock drill to measure readiness of institutions operating in Mafraq

France Ambassador to Jordan, Alexis Le Cour Grandmaison, on Tuesday held a press conference at the Mafraq Governorate, northern Jordan, to talk about the mock drill “Zaatari 2”, which was implemented with the participation of French experts.

“This drill shows the outstanding work that the civil defense teams, Mafraq Governorate and the French Development Agency have been doing for 3 years within a complete project,” Grandmaison said.

He added that there are great and increasing pressures on Mafraq Governorate due to Syrian refugees crisis, urban growth and natural disasters related to climate change.

For his part, Mafraq governor, Salman Njada, said that the “Zaatari 2” drill included many hypotheses, and aims to find out the extent of joint coordination and readiness among all the state’s security and civil institutions operating in the governorate.

He said that the Crisis Room (Civil Protection) has been activated in the Mafraq Governorate building, so that joint coordination takes place between all institutions in cooperation with the French Expertise Organization to enhance capabilities and raise readiness in dealing with all incidents.

Director of Mafraq Civil Defense Colonel Omran Malkawi said the current air depression, which coincided with the drill greatly contributed to its success, as it includes hypotheses of floods, torrential rains, soil drift and various accidents.
