Amman: Former Prime Minister Samir Al Rifai emphasized the critical role of Jordan's youth in shaping the country's future, advocating for their increased involvement in political life and decision-making as part of the political modernization initiative spearheaded by His Majesty King Abdullah II. Al Rifai articulated these views during a political seminar organized by the Jordanian Social Democratic Party (JSDP), titled "Youth and Party Participation: From Awareness to Influence."
According to Jordan News Agency, the seminar marked the commencement of the party's youth conference targeting student groups at Jordanian universities. The event saw participation from party leaders, young people, and university students, underscoring the significance of informed engagement in political parties as a pathway to substantial change and a brighter future for the kingdom.
Al Rifai highlighted the potential presented by Jordan's substantial youth population, emphasizing the opportunity to channel their talents into achievements that benefit the nation. He noted that the success of the political modernization process hinges on the initiative and active involvement of young people in political parties and national institutions, drawing from the experiences of previous generations without over-relying on them.
The former Prime Minister urged youth to contribute to tackling national challenges, particularly in areas such as education, unemployment, investment, and public administration, through practical programs and actionable policies. He advocated for meaningful reform through the establishment of priorities, development of clear plans, transparent measurement of results, and the creation of a stable investment environment to boost confidence in the national economy, generate jobs, and support sustainable development.
Al Rifai stressed that political party work should focus on developing ideas and national programs rather than serving as a platform for attaining public office. He underscored the importance of respecting political pluralism and fostering a culture of dialogue and democratic competition for the national interest.
Concluding his remarks, Al Rifai expressed confidence that Jordan's future will be shaped by young individuals who embrace responsibility, hard work, and participation. He encouraged them to turn their aspirations into concrete achievements while maintaining national unity and supporting the Hashemite leadership, as well as the armed forces and security services.
Abdul Hameed Alimat, JSDP secretary-general, reiterated that enhancing youth participation in political life is a national priority aligned with the party's principles of citizenship, the rule of law, and equal opportunities, aimed at fostering a collective understanding of the national interest.
Representing the youth participants, Mohammad Al Khudair emphasized the necessity for young people to assume a leading role in political party endeavors and in shaping the country's future.
The seminar, moderated by Fadi Oweidat, a member of the party's political bureau and secretary for organization, began with an introduction by party member Majd Al Rawad. Youth Secretary Bayan Al Dajah presented the strategic plan for launching student groups at Jordanian universities.
The initiation of student groups is a part of JSDP's vision to expand youth participation in politics, strengthen their influence at universities as future leader incubators, and enable them to develop initiatives and programs that align with their aspirations and support Jordan's reform and modernization agenda.
