Foreigner Arrested for Sending Fraudulent Links to Jordanian Citizens’ Phones

Amman: Preventive Security personnel have arrested a foreigner for sending fraudulent links to citizens’ phones, according to the Public Security Directorate (PSD). The PSD stated that the arrest followed a series of fake messages sent to people’s phones on Sunday. The messages, purportedly from the Jordanian police, urged recipients to click on an attached link to retrieve their traffic violation records, warning them of potential fines if they did not comply.

According to Jordan News Agency, an investigative team comprising members from the Preventive Security Department, Cybersecurity Unit, and Cybercrime Unit was formed to look into the matter. The spokesperson confirmed that the technical investigation team successfully blocked the fraudulent link and traced the origin of the messages to within the Kingdom.

They quickly identified and located the suspect in an apartment north of Amman. Following a raid, he was arrested, and authorities recovered numerous SIM cards, magnetic cards, magnetic card readers, and laptop computers from the premises.
