Foreign Minister Engages with ICRC President on Humanitarian Efforts

Amman: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi met with President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mirjana Spoljaric Egger. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation and coordination between Jordan and the ICRC, alongside preparations for a high-level conference on humanitarian action in conflict that Jordan is set to host in the last quarter of 2026.

According to Jordan News Agency, the conference will follow the launch of the Global Initiative to Strengthen Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law in 2024. This initiative is a collaboration between Jordan, Brazil, South Africa, China, France, and Kazakhstan in partnership with the ICRC. The meeting also addressed the repercussions of the ongoing regional escalation and efforts to contain it, as well as developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Safadi emphasized the importance of upholding the ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring the sustained and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to address the worsening situation in the Strip. He also called for an end to illegal Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank, describing them as violations of international law. Additionally, he warned against continued restrictions on freedom of worship for Muslims and Christians in occupied Jerusalem.
