New york: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres engaged in a phone conversation to discuss cooperation in humanitarian efforts aimed at delivering aid to Gaza and supporting refugees.
According to Jordan News Agency, the discussion between Safadi and Guterres reviewed regional developments, with a particular focus on the situation in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank. Both parties emphasized the importance of upholding the ceasefire agreement and ensuring its full implementation. They called for coordinated international efforts to guarantee the adequate, sustained, and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance to Gaza. They linked lasting stability in the region to the establishment of a clear political horizon for achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
The discussions also touched upon what Safadi referred to as Israel's violations in the occupied West Bank, which he described as efforts to annex Palestinian territory. Safadi expressed concerns over recent Israeli government decisions, including the seizure of land under the label of "state lands" and the imposition of authority over building and demolition permits in areas under the administrative control of the Palestinian National Authority. He highlighted that such actions constitute violations of international law and necessitate a firm international response.
Safadi warned that these measures threaten prospects for peace and further erode the viability of the two-state solution. Both sides concurred on the necessity for intensified regional and international efforts to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to ensure it receives the necessary funding to continue providing essential services to Palestinian refugees. Safadi also commended the humanitarian role of UN agencies and their critical contribution to delivering aid to Gaza and assisting refugees.
