Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on Tuesday discussed over the telephone the “dangerous escalation” at Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif and efforts to stop Israeli violations.
They talked about the reasons for the escalation, and agreed to continue joint coordination to end tension and stop violence from spiraling, which would have an adverse impact on all.
Safadi urged Israel to respect the historical and legal status quo at Al-Haram Al-Sharif and halt all actions that undermine it, as a path to restore calm.
He noted Washington’s call for respecting the historical and legal status quo, and its efforts to restore calm, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
Safadi stressed the importance of the US support of the two-state solution and its efforts to maintain calm and find a real political horizon to resolve the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.
For his part, Blinken lauded Jordan’s special role within the Hashemite custodianship of the Jerusalem shrines, stressing the importance of respecting the historical status quo at the Haram al-Sharif.
Blinken reiterated the US commitment to working toward achieving stability in the region, and its support of the two-state solution as the avenue to resolve the conflict.
The two ministers also stressed the deep and strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States, and agreed to continue coordination in efforts to resolve regional crises and achieve security, stability and peace.
