Safadi and his Turkish counterpart discussed regional and international developments of common interest, notably the Palestinian issue, and efforts to create a real political horizon for progress towards a just and comprehensive peace on the basis of a two-state solution in accordance with international law and approved international references.

Cavusoglu said Turkey values the kingdom’s role as an important stabilizing factor in the region led by His Majesty King Abdullah.

He underlined the importance of the Hashemite custodianship of Arab-Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem in safeguarding the holy sites, the legal and historical status there, and their Arab-Islamic and Christian identity.

In a separate meeting, Safadi and Norwegian Foreign Minister Marie Eriksen Soreide, held talks focused on ways to develop close partnerships and friendship between the two kingdoms and reflect them into broader cooperation in various fields, particularly economic, investment, education and defence.

The two ministers also reviewed regional and international developments, primarily those related to the Palestinian issue.

Safadi expressed appreciation for Norway’s support to help the Kingdom cope with the burden of refugees crisis and its continued support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) to continue to provide its vital services in accordance with its UN mandate.

Safadi also lauded Norway’s important role by chairing the Liaison Committee dedicated to coordinating international assistance to the Palestinian people, which contributes to improving the living conditions of Palestinians.

For her part, Soreide commended the solidity of relations between the two friendly kingdoms.

She expressed appreciation for Jordan’s pivotal role and the intensive efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah to enhance security and stability in the region.

Soreide also lauded the kingdom’s humanitarian role and approach and hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees despite difficult economic challenges.
