FM meets German, Norwegian counterparts

Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock held talks Tuesday on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields.

During the meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the fifth ministerial meeting of the Stockholm Initiative for Nuclear Disarmament and the Non-Proliferation Treaty, the ministers discussed cooperation programs between Jordan and Germany in many sectors, including environmental protection, combating climate change and developing clean energy and water sources, in addition to economic, investment and defense cooperation..

Safadi, who congratulated Baerbock on appointment as Foreign Minister in the new German government, reaffirmed Jordan’s appreciation for the Germany’s support to the Kingdom in the development process and in helping Jordan provide a decent life for refugees.

The ministers also discussed regional issues and efforts to solve the region’s crises and achieve security and stability.

They highlighted developments related to the Palestinian issue and the peace process, as they stressed the continuation of joint work to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.

In addition, the ministers discussed developments in Syria and the refugee issue and support for the Iraqi government’s efforts to stabilize the country.

Baerbock lauded Jordan’s role and efforts to achieve regional security and stability, and its great humanitarian role in hosting Syrian refugees and providing them with a decent life.

The two ministers agreed to continue working on increasing bilateral cooperation, deepening coordination on regional issues and efforts to resolve regional crises.

Germany represents the second largest supporter of Jordan, and the two countries extensively cooperate in the water sectors and the development of its resources, and the two countries worked intensively through the Munich Group, which includes in addition to the Kingdom and Germany Egypt and France, to find a real political horizon to re-launch peace negotiations.
