With regard to the Palestinian issue, Safadi lauded the European Union’s position that adheres to international legitimacy and the two-state solution, which, Safadi said, is the only way to achieve a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the region.

Safadi also thanked the European Union for its continuous support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), to enable it to continue its services in accordance with its UN mandate.

Borrell commended the Kingdom’s role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, in promoting security and stability in the region, pointing out that the Kingdom is an important strategic partner of the European Union.

In another meeting, Safadi and UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay discussed frameworks for enhancing the close cooperation between the Kingdom and UNESCO.

Safadi lauded the organization’s role in preserving world heritage, stressing the importance of implementing its decisions regarding Jerusalem.
