FM, Greek counterpart hold talks

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Tuesday held meeting with Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias.

Recent events in the occupied Palestinian territories and efforts made to push for an international action capable of stopping the illegal Israeli attacks and violations in Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories and the aggression on Gaza, topped the meeting’s agenda.

The two ministers emphasized that there is no alternative to the two-state solution in accordance with international law and the approved international references as a way to achieve peace and resolve the conflict. In this regard, Safadi expressed appreciation fro Greece’s stance in support of the two-state solution and adhering to international law.

Safadi added that ending the escalation requires an end to the aggression on Gaza and the illegal and unlawful Israeli attacks and violations in the West Bank and the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif, noting that the Israeli unilateral and provocative actions undermine the two-state solution, including building and expanding settlements, and displacing residents from their homes.

Safadi held Israel, as the occupying power, responsible for this escalation and the serious situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, which push the entire region towards more tension and violence.

Safadi underlined that a just and comprehensive peace can only be achieved if the brotherly Palestinian people obtain their full legitimate rights, foremost among which is their right to an independent and sovereign state with occupied Jerusalem as its capital on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders, according to the agreed terms.

Safadi and his Greek counterpart highlighted regional crises and ways to achieve security and stability, underscoring their joint keenness to enhance coordination and cooperation and work to bilaterally develop ties in various fields and within the framework of the trilateral coordination mechanism with Cyprus and in the context of the partnership between the Kingdom and the European Union (EU).

In addition, Safadi on Tuesday morning received a phone call from the Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok, during which they discussed efforts made to stop the dangerous escalation in Jerusalem, Gaza and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories.

The visit of the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Kingdom and the phone call of the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs are in the context of the continuous Jordanian efforts with the foreign ministers of the EU countries, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and his counterparts from the active countries, in order to mobilize an international stand to end the escalation and stop the illegal Israeli provocative practices in the Palestinian territories.
