FM, EU High Representative Discuss Regional Escalation and Strategic Partnership

Amman: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi received on Monday the Vice President of the European Commission and European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.

According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting coincided with Jordan's hosting of the Arab Consultative Meeting and the reconvened ordinary session of the 165th Council of the Arab League at the ministerial level. Safadi and Kallas discussed mechanisms to strengthen the strategic partnership between Jordan and the European Union, exploring avenues to expand bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

The two officials reviewed ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating heightened tensions in the region. They emphasized the critical importance of achieving a comprehensive resolution grounded in international law and the principles of good neighborly relations to guarantee long-term security and stability.

Turning to developments in the Palestinian territories, Safadi stressed the urgent need to halt illegal Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank. He highlighted the expansion of settlements, settler violence, land confiscation, and ongoing violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Safadi and Kallas concluded by reaffirming their commitment to enhancing Jordan-EU relations and maintaining close coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
