Amman:The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) has issued a flash flood warning for valleys and low-lying areas, including Aqaba and the Dead Sea, due to severe weather conditions expected to impact the Kingdom through Wednesday.
According to Jordan News Agency, the JMD stated that atmospheric instability is anticipated to bring heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and occasional hail. JMD Director Raed Khattab noted that scattered showers are expected across various regions, increasing the risk of sudden flooding.
Moderate westerly to northwesterly winds are predicted to periodically pick up, causing dust to blow across desert areas and reduce visibility before the rains commence. The unstable weather is expected to continue into Wednesday, with a slight drop in temperatures. Intense downpours accompanied by lightning and thunder are likely to maintain the high flood risk throughout the day.
Weather conditions are forecasted to improve by Thursday, with mild temperatures expected in most regions and moderate weather in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. However, late-night showers remain a possibility in the north and parts of central Jordan. By Friday morning, temperatures are expected to dip further, with only a slight chance of early morning rain in the north.
The JMD has advised Jordanians to avoid flood-prone valleys and low-lying drainage areas and urged drivers to exercise caution due to reduced visibility and slippery roads.
