Five people injured in gas cylinder blast in Mahweet

Five members of a family were injured in a gas leak and a cylinder explosion in a house in the village of Beit al-Nawwar in al-Rujum district of Mahweet province.

Director of the branch of the Civil Defense Authority in Mahweet Maj. Adel Issa said that at 7:30 pm on Tuesday when the family members of Ali al-Hawsali returned home, a huge explosion took place due to the leakage of domestic gas and the explosion of the cylinder.

Al-Hawsali stated that the explosion injrured the father, 30, his wife, 27 while his children, Bashir, 5, Zekarya, 3, and Reham, 7 months suffered severe to light burns.

He pointed out that the explosion came due to negligence and failure to install the gas regulator in a proper manner, which led to gas leakage throughout the house during the absence of the family.

He stated that the fire was extinguished and the injured were taken to the hospital, calling on citizens to take security and safety measures and not to leave open domestic gas cylinders while they were not at home, and to adhere to proper ventilation for their safety.
