Amman: The State Security Court recently issued verdicts convicting five suspects for possessing narcotics intended for trafficking. These individuals were sentenced in absentia to 20 years of hard labor and fined JD20,000 each. The court also ordered the seizure of the narcotics and four vehicles used in the trafficking operations.
According to Jordan News Agency, the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) acted on a tip-off that the convicts were preparing a large quantity of narcotics-specifically 6,450,000 Captagon pills and 143 kilograms of hashish-for smuggling to a neighboring country by concealing them inside a heavy vehicle, which was a road roller. Authorities promptly arrested the suspects and seized the narcotics, as detailed in court documents.
Furthermore, on April 6, the court issued another verdict convicting four defendants of possessing and exporting narcotics with intent to traffic. These individuals received sentences of 25 years of hard labor, fines of JD25,000, and the confiscation of JD136,000 in revenue derived from the trafficked substances. Additionally, three vehicles used in the trafficking operations were seized.
On October 14, 2024, following information received by the AND that the defendants possessed large quantities of heroin intended for distribution, officers arrested them and seized 12.5 kilograms of heroin along with JD136,000 in proceeds from drug trafficking, according to case details.
"These penalties are in accordance with the law to achieve general and specific deterrence for anyone who tries to threaten the security of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and endanger Jordanian society," stated the court.
