Fisheries Ministry : Decrease in shrimp price results from banning on catching them during breeding season

Fisheries Wealth Ministry attributed the drop in the price of shrimp in the capital, Sana’a, to less than two thousand riyals per kilogram for the first time in twenty years, to a ban on catching them during their breeding season.

The Undersecretary for the Production and Marketing Services Sector, Abdul-Ghani Al-Wali, confirmed to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that decrease in shrimp price will enhance food security for citizens and enable them to buy this type of fish at reasonable prices.

He denied the reports circulating about the presence of the smell and flavor of carbon in the shrimp sold in the capital, Sana’a, and the companies did not dispose of any frozen quantities of shrimp, as some claim, stressing that the quantities of shrimp offered in the markets are fresh and of high quality.

The Undersecretary revealed the Ministry’s intention to expand sales points in various areas of the capital and its suburbs, in cooperation with the Supreme Agricultural and Fisheries Committee, with the aim of providing fish products to consumers at reasonable prices.
